Here is a press release from columbia records.

NEW YORK, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Mat Kearney is set to release his new album, City of Black & White, on May 19 on Aware/Columbia Records. Following the success of his major label debut, Nothing Left To Lose, Kearney has returned with an evolved sound and a world of new experiences.

After spending five years traveling the country establishing himself as a new artist, Mat dug his roots into his new hometown of Nashville, TN, allowing the songs on City of Black & White to evolve from various places and sources - in the back room of a studio where he stopped in to visit a friend, writing with people he met at coffee shops, hearing someone fiddling around with the guitar and humming along. He opened up the writing process to friends and to the community of musicians in Nashville, and crafted songs such as "Fire and Rain," "Here We Go," and "Closer To Love."

"Closer To Love," the album's first single will go to radio March 10 and touring plans for 2009 are underway.

Here is a video of the song City of Black and White. (which has always been one of my favs of his)

Melancholy Splendor...

Have you heard of William Fitzsimmons? Stop what you are doing... as soon as you finish reading this post of course and go to his myspace. Trust me... I've been listening to him on repeat lately. The lyrics are heartbreaking, but the musical accompaniment is so soothing and comforting that I have found myself singing along...

Also it must be mentioned. I think you will also appreciate the sheer magnetism of his beard...

how can you resist that?
